U.S. Energy Output Reached Record High in 2025

American energy production reached an all-time high in 2025, the fourth year in a row of peak output, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (, subscription).
Whats going on: The record came amid higher production泭of natural gas, crude oil and other energy sources, said the EIA, the independent statistical arm of the Energy Department.
- Total U.S. energy production increased 3.4% over the previous record, which was set in 2024.
The details: U.S. natural gas production rose more than 4% from 2024 to 39 trillion cubic feet in 2025.
- Crude oil production totaled 13.6 million barrels a day last year, up 3% from the 2024 record.
The backdrop: Gasoline prices have risen nationwide since the Feb. 28 joint U.S.Israeli strikes on Iran.
- The average price for a gallon of regular reached $4.52 a gallon Monday, 39 cents higher than it was a month ago and about $1.60 more than it was at the end of February.
In addition American fuel exports also hit a record high this month.
