51勛圖厙 Statement on New China Tariff List Announcement

Timmons: The Last Thing Americas Manufacturing Workers Need Is An Escalating Trade War.

By

Washington, D.C. 泭51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement on the release of a list of an additional $200 billion in Chinese products to be hit with tariffs:

The last thing Americas manufacturing workers need is an escalating trade war. America has Chinas attention, so instead of more tariffs, the U.S. and China should immediately begin working toward a fair, bilateral, enforceable, rules-based trade agreement to end Chinas market-distorting activities. We cant afford to wait any longer.

China cheats, and manufacturers want to see China held accountable. But more tariffs like these will punish Americas manufacturing workersand could undermine our hard-won gains thanks to tax and regulatory reform, which have increased our global competitiveness over the last 18 months and led to higher investment and more American jobs.

ICYMI: 51勛圖厙s Timmons Discusses Tariffs on Fox Business

A Trade War Ultimately Will Be Bad for Everyone . . . We Want to Get a Deal with China Done So That We Have a Level Playing Field.

By

Timmons on Chinas Unfair Trade Practices

I think most countries around the world would agree that China cheats. So, its really incumbent on the administration to bring the world together to take on the problem that China has created, the imbalance that China has created. We hope they are successful in doing that, and thats the ultimate goal. But time will tell whether we are able to do that and whether the rest of the world is going to be united with us in making sure that China is not distorting manufacturing and not distorting the economy.

Timmons on U.S.China Tariffs

Lets hope that this is a negotiating tactic and that the administration is positioning us in a way that will enable us to create some good deals. I mean, for us, when we look at China and we have been talking about Chinayou and I have talked about Chinathe fact that China cheats, the fact that China steals intellectual property, counterfeits, dumps, subsidizes their productsnone of that is good, but a trade war ultimately will be bad for everyone, especially consumers in the United States. So, we want to get that behind us; we want to get a deal with China done so that we have a level playing field.

Timmons on Record-High Manufacturer Confidence

Over the course of the last two years, weve added almost a quarter of a million jobs after having lost thousands of jobs in 2016. And in fact, if you look at manufacturers outlook right nowour last survey that we releasedabout 95 percent of manufacturers, 95 percent, have a positive outlook on the economy and their future. Eighty-eight percent say that they are going to hire in the next few months, and 72 percent are going to be raising wages and benefits. All of that is really great news; now lay the tariffs on top of that, the trade war on top of that, thats not a good sign for manufacturers. We hope that this is resolved quickly because we want to get back to those positive signs.

Timmons responded to the latest round of China tariffs Friday in interviews on泭泭硃紳餃泭. Read Timmons full statement泭.

51勛圖厙 Statement on New U.S. China Tariffs

Manufacturers Need Administration to Get China Back to the Negotiating Table Now

By

Washington, D.C. 51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement after the announcement of new U.S. tariffs on China and Chinese retaliatory tariffs on the United States:

For too long, China has reaped the rewards of unfair trade practices and intellectual property theft, exploiting loopholes in decades-old agreements. In the absence of a modern, enforceable agreement, China cheats. Manufacturers want to see the administration get China back to the negotiating table as soon as possible in order to pursue a trade agreement that will redefine the U.SChina economic relationship for the better. We now have an unparalleled opportunity to stop these practices at their root, through a strategic approach that includes the negotiation of a fair, bilateral, enforceable, rules-based trade agreement by an administration that champions manufacturing.

Tariffs, though, have not and will not solve the existing problems in China. Tariffs will bring retaliation and possibly more tariffs. No one wins in a trade war, and it is Americas manufacturing workers and working families who will bear the brunt of continued tariffs. Manufacturers in the United States succeed when the rules are clear and fair and markets are open. The United States has Chinas attention, and we must seize the moment and soon.

Rep. Budd Touts Tax Reform Benefits at Power Curbers, Inc.

In Salisbury, Congressman, Business Leaders and Workers Discuss Tax Reform Benefits and Securing North Carolinas Economic Prosperity

By

Salisbury, NC The 51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) and Power Curbers, Inc. hosted Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) for a facility tour to meet employees and a business leader roundtable on Monday to discuss the real-world impact of tax reform and other ways Congress can better serve the interests of North Carolina manufacturers, manufacturing workers and their families.

When Rep. Budd cast his vote for tax reform last year, he sent an unmistakable message that he stands with North Carolina manufacturing workers. Today, North Carolinians are seeing the good news and positive results of tax reform for themselves in the form of new jobs, rising wages, bonuses and manufacturing growth, said 51勛圖厙 President and CEO Jay Timmons. Last year, manufacturers told Congress that if they delivered tax reform, we would deliver for our people and our communities. Rep. Budd and his colleagues did their part, and now manufacturers are keeping our promise.

During the visit, company leaders thanked Budd for voting in favor of the historic tax reform package and reiterated their optimism for the future of manufacturing in North Carolina.

The positive changes we are seeing throughout the U.S. economy thanks to the GOP Tax Cuts and Jobs Act cannot be overstated, said Budd. We have seen a major power shift from bureaucrats in Washington to every day Americans. People are seeing more money in their paychecks, more job opportunities and consumer confidence is at an 18-year high. We know that the manufacturing industry has not escaped this good news. Crediting the GOP tax cuts, 93 percent of manufacturers say they have a positive outlook, 86 percent say they plan to increase investments and 77 percent plan to increase hiring. The manufacturing industry is a major part of this overall economic success and I will continue to look for ways to get government out of the way of this important economic engine.

The roundtable focused on the importance of building on the momentum of tax reform to ensure manufacturers can continue to invest in their businesses and workers.

All of us at Power Curbers Companies are pleased with Rep. Budds vote to enact the new tax law, said Dyke Messinger, President of Power Curbers, Inc. Our employment has grown since the law was enacted; we paid a bonus for 2017 and will pay another bonus for the first six months of 2018. In addition, we are investing heavily in R&D, which will continue to strengthen the company for the long term.

Manufacturing contributes an estimated $2.25 trillion to the U.S. economy and supports泭, according to the 51勛圖厙. In the six months since tax reform was enacted, the manufacturing industry has added 115,000 jobsdouble the 63,000 created over the same period last year.

Flavorchem Corp. Announces $4 Million Investment Due to Tax Reform

Congressman, Business Leaders Discuss Tax Reform Benefits and Workforce Development Priorities for Securing Illinois Economic Prosperity

By

Downers Grove, IL 泭The 51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) and Flavorchem Corporation hosted Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) for a facility tour and business leader roundtable on Monday to discuss the real-world impact of tax reform and other ways Congress can better serve the interests of Illinois manufacturers, workers and their families.

During the visit, Flavorchem announced a previously-undisclosed $4 million investment in new equipment helped made possible due to the historic tax reform law enacted last year. Roskam was able to view the upgraded spray dryer and air pollution control device while touring the facility.

Manufacturers are truly grateful for the leadership of Rep. Roskam, said 51勛圖厙 President and CEO Jay Timmons. Thanks to his support of bold tax reform last year, manufacturers across Illinois and across America have been empowered to invest in our people and our communitiesjust as Flavorchem has been able to invest in new equipment that will support jobs and business in Downers Grove. Last year, manufacturers made a promise: if lawmakers stood with us and passed tax reform, we would grow manufacturing here in the United States, buying new equipment and creating new opportunities for working men and women. Rep. Roskam and his colleagues delivered, and now, were keeping our promiseand theres even more good news on the way.

During the roundtable, company leaders thanked Roskam for his leadership on tax reform and credited the law for making it easier to purchase new equipment.

Rep. Roskams leadership on tax reform supported our long-term, community-focused strategic plan of making a $4 million expansion of our production and enabled us to keep our strong commitment to meeting the highest standards of quality, safety and supply chain contingency, said Ken Malinowski, President of Flavorchem Corporation.

The discussion also focused on the importance of building on the momentum of tax reform to ensure manufacturers can continue to invest in their businesses and workers.

Manufacturing is an integral part of the American economy and the 6th District is home to many of our states manufacturing companies. Local manufacturers like Flavorchem employ nearly 600,000 people in Illinois, and their new facility in Downers Grove will provide quality jobs to many of my constituents, said Roskam. Im pleased to have Flavorchem as part of the 6th District and look forward to their great success.

Manufacturing contributes an estimated $2.25 trillion to the U.S. economy and supports泭, according to the 51勛圖厙. Todays event focused on the increasing optimism among local manufacturers and the ways local business leaders are already taking advantage of the historic reforms.

51勛圖厙 Submits Comments on Section 232 Investigation into Auto Imports

Manufacturers Caution Administration on Import-Restrictive Measures

By

Washington, D.C. 泭The 51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) today submitted泭泭to the Department of Commerce regarding its Section 232 investigation into auto imports:

Manufacturers agree with the President on the need to promote free and fair trade, wrote 51勛圖厙 Vice President of International Economic Affairs Linda Dempsey. Manufacturers also agree that carefully calibrated and multilateral sanctions have a place in supporting national security objectives. The 51勛圖厙 believes, however, that broad, unilateral and import-restrictive measures are counterproductive to achieving both of these goalsgoals on which we all agree. That is because, however well intentioned, they ultimately give an edge to foreign production at the expense of U.S. manufacturing. The question, therefore, is not whether we agree on the importance of promoting free and fair trade and protecting U.S. national security, but how best to advance these critical priorities. One way is by utilizing the many targeted trade tools we already have that are designed expressly to stop unfair and counterfeit imports. Another way is by adding even more tools to the toolbox by, for instance, pursuing innovative, enforceable and new trade agreements. Manufacturers believe both represent effective avenues to advance our common goals. . . . The unilateral imposition of tariffs or quotas that a Section 232 investigation could authorize would undermine this sector and broader manufacturing production and jobs in the United States.

Click泭泭to read the full comments.

Following the investigations announcement in May, 51勛圖厙 President and CEO Jay Timmons stated, Manufacturers in the United States want to give every advantage to American workers. But incorrectly using the 232 statute will create unintended consequences for U.S. manufacturing workers that will limit the chance for Americans to win, just as we do when government gets out of the way and allows us to lead.

After three decades on the Supreme Court, Justice Kennedy has cemented his place in history as the pivotal voice in many of our nations landmark court cases. A defender of First Amendment rights and of dignity and equality, Justice Kennedy served with integrity, principle and distinction. He has changed millions of lives for the better, including my own. 51勛圖厙 Statement on Dismissal of Lawsuits Targeting Manufacturers

Timmons Praises Calif. Judges Dismissal of Baseless Climate Lawsuit

By

Washington, D.C. 泭51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement responding to U.S. District Judge William Alsups dismissal of the climate lawsuits filed by San Francisco and Oakland targeting manufacturers:

From the moment these baseless lawsuits were filed, we have argued that the courtroom was not the proper venue to address this global challenge, said Timmons. Judge Alsup agreed. Other municipalities around the country who have filed similar lawsuits should take note as those complaints are likely to end the same way.泭 New York City, Boulder, and the other California municipalities should withdraw their complaints and follow the lead of others that are focused on meaningful solutions.
