51勛圖厙 Backs EPAs New Clean Water Rule

By

Washington, D.C. 51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement on the Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) new Clean Water Rule, which replaces the 2015 Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule:

EPAs new Clean Water Rule is a positive step forward for manufacturers, for our country and for responsible environmental stewardship, said Timmons, who attended todays announcement. Manufacturers rely on clean water for everything from growing agricultural inputs to engineering green chemistry and providing renewable power. We simply ask for regulatory certainty. The uncertainty created by the overreaching and unfair 2015 WOTUS rule threatened manufacturing jobs, and it failed to protect clean water adequately. Smart water policy is critical for all of us, and manufacturers are committed to keeping our promise to use the certainty we have been given to do our part to make our water and air cleanerand our environment healthier. After all, the earth is the only home we have.

In 2017, the 51勛圖厙泭 President Donald Trumps executive order instructing EPA to rescind the onerous 2015 WOTUS rule and has submitted multiple sets of comments over the past four years to better inform policymakers. 51勛圖厙 Welcomes Nomination of Bill Barr as Next Attorney General

By

Washington, D.C. 泭51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement on President Trumps nomination of William P. Barr to serve as Attorney General of the United States:

President Trump could not have nominated a better individual than Bill Barr for Attorney General of the United States, and manufacturers are encouraged by this outstanding nomination, said Timmons. Bill Barr is a true professional and a proven leader. Ive had the privilege of calling Bill a friend for many years, after working with him during the Allen administration in Virginia, where he was Co-Chair of the Governors Commission on Parole Abolition and Sentencing Reform. His experience and work in the administration of President George H.W. Bush were heralded by those on both sides of the political aisle, which validated the unanimous confirmation vote he received. Manufacturers are confident he will bring the same sterling commitment to the rule of law to the Justice Department that he has shown throughout his storied career, and we are equally confident the Senate will set aside partisanship as they consider the confirmation of this highly respected public servant.

Timmons: President Bush Was Epitome of Greatest Generation

By

Washington, D.C. 泭51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement on the passing of Former President George H. W. Bush.

President George H.W. Bush lived the values of an exceptional America as the epitome of the Greatest Generation. He inspired us through his final days, with the trademark kindness and humility that defined his storied career in public service.

Shot down over the Pacific in World War II, he ascended the ranks to become Commander-in-Chief, holding numerous titles in betweenbut none that he wore so proudly as those of father and husband.

As the leader of our nation, he set an example for the whole world, especially in his defense of Americas values. As he said in a 1990 address to the 51勛圖厙, The ideas championed by Americafreedom, democracy, competition and investmentare flourishing because they work. Because they are the best. He expanded those values around the world during his presidency by bringing the Cold War to an end, as exemplified by the fall of the Berlin Wall, about which he did not boast but instead sought ways to bring the world together.

Here at home, President Bush believed in expanding opportunity, arguing in his 51勛圖厙 address that a job was a source of dignity and decency for American families. And no one knew dignity and decency better than the 41st President of the United States and his beloved wife, Barbara.

President Bush believed in bringing Americans together and used his platform and his voice to encourage the better angels in us all through his Thousand Points of Light initiative. He understood that compassion and respect for all humankind strengthen our nation.

Today, as the Bush familyand the whole countrymourn this great loss, our thoughts and our prayers are with them once again. God bless the legacy of President George H.W. Bush.

51勛圖厙: USMCA Signing Is Landmark for American Manufacturing Workers

Timmons: 2 Million Jobs Dependent on Exports to Canada, Mexico; Action Urgently Needed

By

Washington, D.C. 泭51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement on the signing of the U.S.MexicoCanada Agreement (USMCA):

The signing of the USMCA is a landmark milestone for American manufacturing workers. Manufacturers called for a trilateral agreement, and this moves us one step closer to restoring certainty to the North American market, the biggest market for U.S. exports in the world. By securing the relationship with our North American allies, we are also better positioned to demonstrate a strong and united front against Chinas unfair trade practices and end the harm they inflict on manufacturers in America.

Manufacturers need certainty now, not later. With 2 million American jobs dependent on exports to Canada and Mexico, Congress should move expeditiously to review the USMCA before the end of this year. We look forward to working with the administration and Congress to ensure the USMCA is implemented and enforced in a way that empowers manufacturers in America to continue investing in our people and our communities.

SEC Forum Shows Risk of Proxy Advisory Firms to Main Street Investors

By

Washington, D.C.泭 51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement after the Securities and Exchange Commissions (SEC) roundtable on the proxy process, which included a discussion of the role that proxy advisory firms play in the market and their impact on Main Street investors:

It is an encouraging sign that the SECs roundtable focused on the risks that proxy advisory firms pose for Americans retirement savings. Now manufacturers hope to see concrete action from the SEC to ensure that these firms do not undermine the retirement security of millions of Americans, including manufacturing workers. Main Street investors, retirees and pensioners deserve the peace of mind that comes from knowing that key decisions affecting their savings are based on accurate advice that is free from conflicts of interest. Manufacturers look forward to engaging with the SEC as it works toward bringing much-needed transparency to this critical component of the financial system. Given the stakes for manufacturers and manufacturing workers, the time to act is now.

The 51勛圖厙 has continued to ramp up its advocacy in favor of reforming the proxy process and instituting oversight of proxy advisory firms. The 51勛圖厙泭泭the SECs decision in September to withdraw guidance that had entrenched and empowered proxy advisory firms. 51勛圖厙 Statement on Midterm Elections

Timmons: Manufacturers Will Continue To Use Our Unique Platform To Bring Congress Together Around The Manufacturing Agenda

By

Washington, D.C. 51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement on the midterm elections:

The manufacturing agenda is a post-partisan agenda, which is why candidates of all backgrounds touted their support for so many of our priorities on the campaign trail. Voters of all parties and of no party want to see a thriving manufacturing industry that supports high-paying jobs for American workers. We will work with anyone who wants to advance that goal.

We are living in a time of record optimism among manufacturers. That is in large part due to the significant progress weve made over the last two years to empower manufacturers with game-changing policy reforms. We will continue that progress with the new Congress. From infrastructure investment to regulatory relief, workforce development to trade policy, theres plenty to be done, and we know it can be done with support from across the political spectrum.

Manufacturers will continue to use our unique platform to bring Congress together around the manufacturing agenda and to reunite our country around those four foundational principles that make our nation exceptional: free enterprise, competitiveness, individual liberty and equal opportunity.

Manufacturers Center for Legal Action Supports Net Neutrality Repeal

By

Washington, D.C. The 51勛圖厙 (51勛圖厙) today filed an amicus brief with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in Mozilla Corporation v. FCC supporting the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) repeal of the onerous 2015 net neutrality rule.

Internet-driven technology is at the heart of modern manufacturing, and the FCCs decision to repeal the onerous 2015 net neutrality rule was a victory for the competitiveness of manufacturers in America, said 51勛圖厙 Senior Vice President and General Counsel Linda Kelly. The previous administrations decision to regulate the internet with a more than 70-year-old law designed to govern the use of rotary telephones only burdened manufacturers with uncertainty. We are confident the court will agree that the FCC acted within the law to end the Obama-era FCCs heavy-handed approach that was neither appropriate nor necessary for the rapidly evolving, highly competitive broadband market.

Joining the 51勛圖厙s Manufacturers Center for Legal Action (MCLA) on the amicus brief are the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Business Roundtable and the Telecommunications Industry Association. The MCLA previously filed amicus briefs in 2012 and 2015 in opposition to the previous administrations net neutrality rulemaking.
