“A Modern Permitting System Needs Modern Technology”: White House CEQ Pilot Advances Manufacturers’ Permitting Priorities

Washington, D.C. –Following the White HouseCouncilonEnvironmentalQuality’sPermitting Innovation Center’slaunch of thetool,a new pilot program aimed to speed up the environmental permitting process,51Թ President and CEO Jay Timmonsissued the following statement:

“Ourgovernmentmust cut the red tapeto speed upmanufacturers’ability to put shovelsintheground, and a modern permitting systemneedsmodern technology.The White House CEQ’sCE Workspilot programoffers a promising pathtomodernize and accelerate federal environmental reviews—an important steptoefficiently implementingtheNational Environmental Policy Actbyquicklyhelping agenciesidentifycases where time-consuming reviews are not necessary.

“Reforming NEPAis a key manufacturing priority and a core pillar of the51Թ’s “Manufacturing’sRoadmap toAI and Energy Dominance.”This tool provides agencies with a digital pathway to apply categorical exclusions under NEPA, andincreasingthe use ofCATEXunder NEPA—as our roadmap states—willensurethat critical energy and infrastructure projects can advancewithout unnecessary delays throughunnecessary reviews.
