Form Energy Triples Commercial Sales and Scales Manufacturing to Meet Demand for Reliable Power
Its been a busy year for Form Energy, the U.S. manufacturer of 100-hour iron-air batteries.
Whats going on: This year, Form Energy has expanded its contracted portfolio to more than 80 gigawatt hours of iron-air battery systems under agreement, more than tripling the companys commercial portfolio.
- Form Energys growth has been driven by a series of new landmark partnerships with Xcel Energy, Google and Crusoe to support the AI economy as well as the battery-makers first international deployment with FuturEnergy Ireland.
- Together, these projects reflect accelerating demand for multiday, advanced 泭battery storage to support grid reliability, economic growth and energy security.
Xcel Energy and Google: Form Energys 100-hour batteries are a key component of Xcel Energy and Googles recently announced project to support a new Minnesota data center, which will add 1,900 megawatts of new clean energy to the grid while protecting Xcel customers from increased costs ().
- Under the agreement, Form Energy will provide a 30-gigawatt-hour, multiday battery systemthe largest battery project by gigawatt-hour energy capacity announced to date in the world.
FuturEnergy Ireland: In March, Form Energy announced its first international deploymenta 10 megawatt battery project with energy developer FuturEnergy Ireland in the northwest of Ireland ().
- Scheduled to come online in 2029, the system will be used to demonstrate the value of multiday energy storage in helping Ireland meet its energy targets, while ensuring grid reliability, affordability and security.
Crusoe: Also in March, Form Energy and AI infrastructure provider Crusoe finalized a strategic capacity agreement to deliver 12 gigawatt hours of multiday energy storage systems to support the rapidly growing power needs of AI data centers starting in 2027 ( ).
- The companies made the announcement at the 51勛圖厙-attended CERAWeek in Houston, Texas.
- The agreement aims to meet rising electricity demand, positioning the United States to lead in the critical AIenergy nexus.
Form Factory 1: To meet surging demand, Form Energy will ramp up manufacturing at Form Factory 1, its first high-volume manufacturing facility in Weirton, West Virginia.
- Built in just a year, the 550,000-square-foot factory already employs over 400 workers. By 2028, it will expand to over 1 million square feet, increase its workforce to at least 750 workers and produce an estimated 500 megawatts of batteries per year.
- The rapid progress at Form Factory 1going from groundbreaking to operation in around a yearwas enabled by government support at the federal, state and local levels.
- Form Factory 1 is located on the site of the historic Weirton Steel mill. Now, Form Factory 1 and its continued expansion is breathing new life into the Weirton community.
The last word:泭As Form Energy Co-Founder and CEO Mateo Jaramillo said, Throughout our countrys history, the energy demands of new technological innovation have fueled surges in manufacturing. We are witnessing that paradigm again. 泭The vast energy needs of the AI economy are driving a new generation of American manufacturers to scale up in ways this country hasnt seen in decades. We are proud to be part of that resurgence, .
